Hi @Technical-NGO/general

So here's our first issue, let's create a beautiful landing/home page for our organization, which tells the objective of this organization. How we do the things and why.
The page should be the place where a visitor get's to know about our organization and our enthusiasm for the work we do.

In this world of glitter, I would personally prefer minimalistic but slick design.

Suggestions Needed!

This is how the page in construction looks for now 😄

@kundanvishen it looks cool for now.
But, is this just a landing page for now and then we will go for complete site or it's the main page for later also?

Are we going to use CSS Framework or we'll work by scratch ?

@kundanvishen

@shashank-sharma what do you suggest?

@shashank-sharma

I say we go from scratch, as we need to learn. Also before any contribution, it would be great if someone can push the basic website structure and then we will create issues based on our needs and if anyone is interested in solving that issue then he will get assigned and he will work on it. This way we need not to worry about the conflicts and everything. Obviously there will be so many collision when we will try to merge code from various sources.

@Prateek-Tewari
Copy link

Also, let's not go too fast. I am not acquainted with GitHub, so it might take time for me to catch up.
Let's work on a task creation and task completion in a timeline kind of approach for everyone.
This way,everyone will get a chance to work on the same thing at the same time and we might be able to pick up the best one for the website.

@fayazara
Copy link

This looks far better, add a linear gradient with a degree parameter
fireshot

Cant push code right now, bit busy, someone add it if you like

@Prateek-Tewari

@fayazara it's Uber cool.
Let's fix this one.

@fayazara That's great! Send the PR!

Also, the focus is to create the landing page and not to the under construction page 😆
Haha

@fayazara
Copy link

Protip.
Refrain from using in-house images as much as possible, in order to keep your site lightweight.
And make use of FA5 for icons

@kundanvishen Yes, its just that the construction page being dark was itchin.

Will work on the wireframe, I just need suggestions on what exactly we need on the site.

@fayazara
Copy link

@kundanvishen Have a slack workspace created for this, it will be much easier

@aravindharinair Here are hex codes.
background: linear-gradient(-45deg, #2E3192, #1BFFFF);

@aravindharinair

I'm also with @shashank-sharma in that we'll build the site up from scratch. We'll learn more that way...
Also, updated the BG as per @fayazara 's design which is better than the dark one I chose...

@aravindharinair
Copy link
Collaborator

I used a different set of HEX values @fayazara . See how it is... Something's wrong with my git push/pull access on Terminal. So, designing on Atom, copy/pasting to GitHub on browser.. 😄

@SyedHimaayath
Copy link

Guys we probably should start with wireframing. If we know how we want the site to be, we could design ASAP.
Anybody good with Photoshop or Sketch could help in building a mock up. Translation to code won't take much time.

@seeni-dev

First we should define what our organization is for. It will help us to design accordingly.

fayazara commented Feb 17, 2018

@kundanvishen Sure, I will contribute to the LP, once done, I will have the site validated by a pro SEO analyst, make sure, the page gets attraction.

Someone mentioned using Trello for task management, I would suggest Asana, Trello is crap, or you could just use Github itself, and assign the issues as tasks.

@aravindharinair
Copy link
Collaborator

As @fayazara said, we could use GitHub itself and assign tasks as Issues. We needn't use another service for that. Make everything more compact and easier to manage.

@shashank-sharma
Copy link

@aravindharinair True ... Right now our community is not even big yet that we need such service. Our main priority is create one website and then start creating issues and assign it to few new comers in this community so that they can learn.

@aravindharinair
Copy link
Collaborator

@shashank-sharma , exactly!
So, in order of priority:

  1. Create a name for the org
  2. Design a mock-up for our site
  3. Translate into HTML (we could assign different issues to different pages)

And finally,
Spread the word... 😄

shashank-sharma commented Feb 17, 2018

It is just like my Issue which I have created. Obviously we need someone who wants to work on creating one simple website with minimum requirements so that issues can be build up and then assigned. We need @kundanvishen to decide on this or whole community.

Kickstart for the LP wireframe, which we have been talking whole day, this is just a rudimentary mockup, Wirefeame. Use enhanced tools if needed (Sketch, Invision, MarvelApp etc) as I do not use them.

PS, I will be busy tomorrow, hence won't be as active as today, since I am on a deadline to submit two freelance projects from a-hole clients.

Someone mentioned using material design, if using, this is a good reference, he has showcased good the MD guidelines very good.

Peace.

Hello people, i'm familiar with Git and Github but never worked with a team or for a project. So, assign me some medium CSS HTML as i directly can't jump into anything. And, are we using any tools? Or just going from the scratch.

@aravindharinair

Hi @Karthik781 . This will be a great opportunity to collaborate then...
We'll be going from scratch as that'd be better for learning.
Regarding assigning tasks, once we post them, you can assign yourself to one of them.

@kundanvishen @aravindharinair @shashank-sharma @SyedHimaayath

Here is what I am proposing, what this org/community could do.

  • Share your idea for a web app, which was left undone due to lack of resources, help, time, support etc.
  • Create a poll, let others validate and decide if it is really helpful, if we think this could be done from our end, we will pick up the project and start working on it, convert the idea to a prototype and divide the work.
  • We will credit the author and the contributors.

This way we could get actual projects in future to build.

This could be a great way to learn and make new things, could really help building your resumes.

I am planning to build a slack workspace for this, I have some good ideas to share with you guys, let me know if I can proceed.

@fayazara I hardly think that we are going to work (I am not trying to be negative but placing some facts). It's good that we are seeing some great comments showing commitment towards this, but I don't think it is going anywhere as long as someone step up and guide this whole community as it has been 1 week from now.

@fayazara , I'm ready. Was busy due to Uni and stuff. Exams will be over by next week, so will be able to spend more time here.
@shashank-sharma , I agree. Someone should take the overall responsibility for the Org. Preferably someone who has experience and can devote time for this...

@kundanvishen

@Technical-NGO/general
I understand that we are not going very fast with our implementations.
But let's agree on one fact that we don't have enough resources to work.
90% of our members have just started with HTML & CSS.

For the leadership part, I received only 3 applications. Not complaining but everyone has to take responsibility here.
Instead of coming up with suggestions, let's come up with what you are going to do?
And start working on it?
Why are we so hesitant?

I would be able to contribute in a much better way, but not in a few days.
Not discussing my personal life, but, I'm moving to another country across the globe, and it needs serious learnings and planning, so that takes up a lot of time.
However, as eventually, life would start settling down for me, I would move up the things.

For now, If anyone of you willing to take up the whole responsibility? Let me know.

@Karthik781
Copy link

I'm literally waiting from day 1 for you experienced guys to come up with some thing. I know you are and will be busy, just come up with some blueprint or idea, so, we can do some basic markup job. Also, list some basic tools we will be working on. so that we can get some familiarity with them.

I feel, the better way to keep ppl engaging is to actually start something

@fayazara
Copy link

@kundanvishen You are right, I am ready to assist members on FED as well as work individually on tasks, plus I am also ready to assist on backend issues, hosting space, db management, write APIs for the org if needed.

Although, I won't be able to completely take the responsibility fully, since I won't be able to dedicate the deserved time as I work during day time. If we divide & share the work accordingly, its might work.

Plus, this could be great for students, who are about to graduate, they could mention in their portfolios that they have contributed to the open source communities.

Here's how we could divide the work.

  • Managing the Repo
  • Validate a new project idea
  • Validate a new project idea
  • Breaking up a project into pieces and assigning to members
  • Deciding which tech to be used on a project.
  • Handling Pull requests, making sure everyone agrees before merging.

I am ready to take up a few of these if you agree, or even assign me yourself after validating my capabilities.

@aravindharinair
Copy link

@Karthik781 , why wait? You know, an idea/plan can come from anyone, not just the "experienced guys". So, if you have one, share it.
There are various tools that can be used, such as NodeJS, AngularJS, Bootstrap, and the list goes on. But for each project, the efficient tools would vary. But the basics would be HTML/CSS and some flavour of JavaScript.
And, FYI, there's a landing page repo currently live. You can work on that. Like, say a better design or an about page in the same style, or something like that. Feel free...

@aravindharinair I know this project may sound easy, but I want our first project to be "Introduction to Git & GitHub in regional languages", they will be static pages, but we can make a template and use it to write html+css.

Let me know what you think.

aravindharinair commented Feb 23, 2018

@kundanvishen I agree with @fayazara . Division of work can work. I'm also hesitant to take full responsibility as:

  1. Not much experience in FED
  2. Uni and associated projects
    Few of these divisions, I can take and work with.

@fayazara , regarding your project "Introduction to Git & GitHub in regional languages", I think that would be good. I'm all in for that. Like you said, we can just build the template and let ppl work on the project.

@Prateek-Tewari
Copy link

@kundanvishen I am up for everything,but then,my experience is nothing in this field and so I didn't apply for a leader post. I didn't expect that only 3 people will apply for it. Consider me for that part now and bear with all the mistakes I make.
As far as the project is concerned,my suggestion is to make a clone of LinkedIn but with our efforts and our flavour so that we can enhance our skills and can provide jobs to people coming from open source communities.
Give it a thought.

@fayazara , shall we start with your project on translating the site to different regional languages? This can be the first project and can be assigned to various people from the same place. What's your thoughts on this?
