Is your feature request related to a problem ?

it would be nice to have a feature where you can hide or drop statuses that either mention people on instances that don't federate with you, or are blocked, which would fix broken threads and avoid seeing people you block or don't federate with mentioned on your timeline.

Describe the solution you'd like.

basically turn on an option so statuses which are in-reply-to posts which are unobtainable by your instance (because that person is blocked, you don't federate, etc.) are hidden or dropped. the same can be done for top-level posts that mention accounts which are inaccessible.

further, perhaps some kind of greylisting mode could be implemented where if they aren't outright blocked, those people are just hidden. the posts are still fetched one-way by your instance, allowing you to make decisions on them before you add them to the allowlist, and they can fetch your posts.

Describe alternatives you've considered.

muting statuses which mention blocked accounts doesn't work that well especially if you are an allowlist instance.
